과학은 미래로 흐른다

과학의 발전 과정을 설명해주는 책이다. 많은 참고 자료들이 나오지만, 그 내용들을 다 몰라도 흐르는 물을 살피는 것처럼 읽을 수 있다. 아직도 과학은 계속 앞으로 가고 있다.

지식이 늘어날수록 세계의 비밀은 줄어들지 않고 오히려 깊어진다는 점을 배우는 것은 고통스럽지만 즐거운 통찰의 과정이다. 이 깨달음을 이해하고 마음에 새긴 사람은 세상 만물과 그 요소에 더 많은 경외감을 갖게 되고 세계와 동료 인간들을 더 존중하게 될 것이다. 그리고 이것이 실제로 드러나게 되는 가장 중요한 지식일 것이다.

> In this article I was guided outside my special branch of science, by coincidences of the sense of the ideas occuring almost simultaneously in different sciences : correspondence, complementary pairs of opposites and wholeness appear independently both in physics as well as in the ideas of the unconscious. The unconscious t itself has a certain analogy to the field in physics and both are shifted by an observational problem, outside the range of visualibility into the paradoxical. Although in physics one does not speak of archetypes which reproduce themselves, but of statistical laws of nature with primary probabilities, both formulations meet in the tendency to amplify the older more narrow idea of causality (determinism)to a more general form of connections in nature, toward which the psycho-physical problem also points. This way of consideration leads me to the expectation, that the ideas on the unconscious will not be developed further in the narrow frame of its therapeutic applications, but that their junction with the general stream of the natural sciences of the phenomena of life will be decisive for them.
